The systematic theology of worship is one of the core courses for students in the Advanced Worship Program at Ava Worship Academy. Since understanding the concept of worship holds a foundational place in the Christian faith, whether or not we serve in musical worship within the church, we have decided to offer this course as a separate, public program so that more people can benefit from it.

About the Course:
Many questions arise regarding the nature of worship:
What type of worship is pleasing and acceptable to God? More precisely, what kind of worship reflects worship of the true and living God, and how can we determine this? In recent decades, people have responded to these questions in very different ways. On one hand, there are churches like Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, and Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, which draw their style and customs from surrounding cultures. On the other hand, there are many who turn to Canterbury, Rome, or Byzantium, embracing ancient worship practices hundreds of years old that stand in contrast to contemporary culture.
Today, if someone is asked which church they attend, they’re likely less focused on denomination and more interested in worship style—whether traditional, liturgical, or contemporary. While past discussions on worship revolved around the use of musical instruments, doctrines, official prayers, confession of sins, and pre-written prayers, many discussions now center around musical style.
In this course, we aim to answer the following questions:
When Scripture speaks of worship, what does it mean to convey? Who is the true recipient of worship? Who are the true worshipers that God accepts? The course will examine worship beyond communal prayers, delving into personal, professional, and family ethics, then return to corporate worship, focusing on elements essential to Christian worship such as rituals, the service of the Word or biblical teaching, prayer, music, offerings, and sacrifices. It will also cover the significance of worship spaces, the role of leaders in promoting authentic worship, and other fundamental questions.
